The company was originally established as a value-added reseller (VAR) specializing in Microsoft Exchange and server technologies. The executive team of Do IT Smarter quickly learned that the requirements of small and midsize businesses extend beyond the occasional implementation or migration.

In 2000, Do IT Smarter began offering a comprehensive support package which included help desk services, on-site services, and monitoring services. This type of business computer support is commonly referred to as managed services.
